How do we pick?
There are so many great organisations and charities out there doing amazing work. Some are well known, and others you've probably never heard of. We're wanting to raise awareness of at least 7 different organisations over the course of the Ubuntu across Southern Africa Expedition.
Two of the organisations I've already had Zoom meetings with to discuss this project and our partnership. Others I'll be meeting with in person when I return to South Africa. The International Rhino Foundation does exceptional work trying to stop rhino poaching in Southern Africa. The School Club Zambia is a small but mighty charity that works in the Sinazongwe area of Zambia, and gives vulnerable schools the financial and technical support they need to implement the Zambian curriculum effectively in a financially and environmentally sustainable way. They are making a huge difference in the area.
Wildlife conservation, education and access to clean water are important to both Luise and myself, and these are the organisations we researched to find the ones we thought we could best help. Our goal is to use this big trip to fundraise for these organisations. As I meet with representatives from some of the other organisations, I'll add them to the website.
In the build-up to the trip, we'll be interviewing representatives from these charities, and sharing some of the work they do. This might mean a little travel to visit them in some out of the way places, but it's worth it to be able to inform you about the work they do. These interviews will be uploaded to my YouTube channel and also to this website. If you'd like to support any of the charities, you'll be able to do it directly through each charity's website. We'll not be handling any of the funds raised. At the end of the trip, you'll be invited to vote for your favourite charity. The one that gets the most votes, will get the sponsored vehicle we used for the expedition.
Together, we can make a difference!
